Hottentot Apron – a Sketch (2006)

(DV/1:1.33/col/70min/no dialogue)

A visual poem that omits dialogue entirely in depicting a young woman’s emotional journey. One day, a girl with an ugly birthmark hidden away on her body spots a flute-playing man whose face is concealed by a grey hood. As if drawn by the sound of his flute, she wanders through a forest to a house where she finds a doll that bears the same birthmark as hers. Produced as part of an ongoing project organized by the Aichi Arts Center (AAC) on the theme of “bodies,” its screenings have often been accompanied by live music performances. In 2011, a recording of one of these performances was newly added to the soundtrack to create a “sound remix” version of the film.
